Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving how a business appears in AI-generated answers. A useful starting point is whether the answer can cite a page that actually supports its claim.
Apply the idea
- Choose a customer question your business can answer with evidence.
- Publish the answer on a stable page with clear ownership and relevant sources.
- Keep factual claims specific: state the product, version, location, or date they apply to.
- Record citations separately from mentions, and compare repeated observations.
For a retailer, “Does this desk fit a 90 cm space?” is a better content brief than “write something about AI.” The page needs dimensions, not a paragraph about innovation.
A check you can run
Ask the same question before and after a documented content change. Save the full answers, including misses. Treat the comparison as an observation, not proof that one edit caused a citation.
