Keep the original publication date and show a revision date when the content changes meaningfully. Dates help readers judge relevance; changing a timestamp alone does not make an old answer more useful.
Apply the idea
- Check the facts most likely to expire, such as prices, interfaces, and availability.
- Describe significant corrections when they affect a previous conclusion.
- Keep visible dates and Article metadata consistent.
- Retain the evidence behind a dated example rather than presenting it as a current observation.
A tutorial revised for a changed interface deserves a new modification date. A spelling correction usually does not need a “new guide” announcement. The distinction is whether the reader receives substantively different information.
A check you can run
Open the page and its structured data together. Confirm that the original date survives and that the modification date corresponds to an actual revision record.
