An internal link should help a reader answer the next relevant question. Build topic clusters around that progression, with a useful overview linking to narrower guides and those guides pointing back to the overview.
What to inspect
- Use descriptive anchor text that explains the destination.
- Link a prerequisite when a reader needs it to apply the current advice.
- Connect related decisions rather than every page sharing a broad keyword.
- Make important links available in delivered HTML.
A guide about product variants naturally leads to stock accuracy and canonical URLs. Linking it to an unrelated rewards article simply because both are new does little for the reader.
A check you can run
Take one article and explain each related link in a sentence: “Read this next because…” Replace links that have no convincing answer.
