Measure task completion against an explicit outcome, such as finding a delivered price or submitting an authorized inquiry. A page load, a click, and a finished task are different events.
What to record
- Write the task and success condition before running it.
- Record the start URL, inputs, access context, and stopping point.
- Classify success, failure, and inconclusive attempts separately.
- Retain the evidence needed to reproduce a failure.
If the task is to find a total under USD 55, reaching checkout is insufficient when delivery remains unknown. The result must answer the original constraint. Keep task scope small enough that the evidence is inspectable.
A check you can run
Review an attempted task without its success label. Can another person derive the same outcome from the recorded steps and result? If not, improve the evidence before calculating a completion rate.
