A product’s size or color can change its price, availability, and identity. Make the selected variant explicit so an agent does not combine one option’s photograph with another option’s offer.
What the shopper needs
- Give each selectable option a readable label and visible selected state.
- Show the price and stock for the current selection.
- Preserve the chosen variant when linking or returning from the cart.
- Keep structured data consistent with the product grouping and offers you actually show.
A shirt page saying “in stock” is ambiguous when only the small size remains. A customer requesting medium needs availability for medium, not the product family as a whole.
A check you can run
Select two variants with different availability. Reload the destination and inspect the cart. Confirm the same variant, price, and stock context survive each step.
